Meet M3

M3 is a boutique yoga and fitness studio with two locations in Athens and Atlanta, Georgia. With playfulness as one of their core values, they aim to bring a sense of fun to yoga and consistently encourage their members to try new things. M3 recently switched from Mindbody Online to Mariana Tek to modernize the member experience, deliver on their core value of playfulness, and increase engagement during historically slow summer months.

“We run a summer challenge every year because it’s our slowest time,” said Matt Chambers, M3 Co-Owner and Teacher. “We try to motivate people to keep showing up and keep taking care of themselves.” Before switching to Mariana Tek, the M3 team ran these challenges with a paper and a pen. They’d track activity on hundreds of cards taped on the studio wall, which was hard to keep up with and limited the visibility and accuracy of the challenges.  

Adopting Mariana Tek and it’s new gamification suite allowed the team to move their challenges 100% online. Every student’s activity was automatically recorded, no matter which studio they attended – and their progress was visible online.

In this space, fitness goes beyond physical activity; it serves as a catalyst for nurturing connections and building a supportive community.

Feature Focus: The Leaderboard

M3 used Mariana Tek’s leaderboard feature to drive engagement among their entire fitness community.“We used to have to count every card manually across two different practice spaces. That was a lot of work.”  Now, the M3 team can motivate and incentivize students easily online.

“The students really enjoyed being able to track progress from anywhere, especially our cross-studio students,” said Matt. “People enjoyed seeing their friends progress too. With 500 cards on the wall, it can be hard to pick out your friends, whereas on the app it’s easy to scroll and see their name.”

One major business benefit of digital gamification was the awareness it brought to the variety of classes M3 offers. “Our studio specializes in variety – we have different class styles that are heated or unheated across two different practice spaces.” Challenges enabled M3 to motivate students to try new classes. ”When challenges encourage students to cross-pollinate across classes, it’s very impactful to our business.”

The results? Despite summer being a typically slow season, July of 2024 was the second-best month of the year for one of their studios. Year of year from 2023 to 2024, they saw a 31% increase in visits at both studios (Athens and Atlanta).
